Discover natural remedies and supplements for menopause relief in my interview with Naturopath Vicky Godfrey from DNAPal. Learn how to balance your hormones, ease symptoms, and support your gut health through menopause.
Menopause can feel like a rollercoaster, can’t it? From sudden hot flushes to mood swings, and skin that feels like it’s doing its own thing—it’s a lot to navigate. Luckily, I had the chance to sit down with Vicky Godfrey from DNAPal, an incredible Naturopath who specialises in gut health and hormone balance during menopause. With her holistic approach, she helps women figure out natural ways to support their bodies during this major life change. In our chat, we dive into natural remedies, supplements, and lifestyle changes that can make all the difference.

The Role of Hormones in Menopause Relief
One of the key things Vicky shared is the impact hormones have during menopause and how understanding them can lead to better symptom management.
“Hormonal imbalance is at the root of so many of the symptoms we experience during menopause,” says Vicky. “Our estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels shift, and that can wreak havoc not only on our mood and energy levels but also on our skin and overall health.”
The first step? Supporting your body in balancing these hormones naturally. Vicky explains that a key part of her approach is using phytoestrogens, which are plant-based compounds that mimic estrogen. “You can find these in foods like flaxseeds, soy, and lentils. Adding them to your diet can help ease symptoms like hot flushes and mood swings.”
Gut Health and Its Connection to Menopause
Gut health plays a major role in managing menopause symptoms, something I hadn’t realised before talking to Vicky. She explains that the gut is responsible for metabolising and eliminating hormones, so if your gut isn’t functioning well, it can worsen your symptoms.
“Your gut is where a lot of hormone processing happens,” Vicky tells me. “If it’s sluggish or out of balance, you’re more likely to experience things like bloating, constipation, and even increased hot flushes.”
Vicky recommends incorporating fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, and kefir, as well as a high-quality probiotic. “These can help to support the gut lining and improve digestion, which in turn aids hormone regulation.”
Natural Supplements for Menopause Symptom Relief
When it comes to supplements, Vicky is all about targeted solutions for common menopause issues. “I’m a huge believer in using natural supplements to ease symptoms,” she says. “For instance, magnesium is a great one for improving sleep quality and reducing anxiety, which so many women struggle with during menopause.”
Vicky also recommends adaptogenic herbs like Ashwagandha and Rhodiola, which help your body cope with stress. “These herbs can be a lifesaver for women experiencing the emotional ups and downs of menopause. They help regulate cortisol levels and promote relaxation.”
For those experiencing skin changes—dryness, loss of elasticity, or acne—Vicky suggests looking at Omega-3 fatty acids. “These are anti-inflammatory and help to support skin hydration and elasticity, keeping your skin looking and feeling its best.”

Lifestyle Adjustments to Support Menopause Relief
In addition to diet and supplements, Vicky is a big advocate for lifestyle changes that can make menopause a little easier to handle.
“Exercise is key,” she says. “Not only does it help with mood swings and anxiety, but it also boosts your metabolism and bone density, which are crucial as estrogen levels drop.”
When I asked about stress management, Vicky suggested mindfulness techniques like yoga and meditation. “When you’re stressed, your body produces more cortisol, which can make your symptoms worse. Practicing mindfulness can help reduce cortisol levels, making your symptoms more manageable.”
